The Combat Veterans for Congress PAC is endorsing Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Gallegos, USA (Ret) as the 116th Combat Veteran For Congress in nine years; he is a fiscally conservative candidate who believes in a smaller less intrusive federal government, in the rule of law, lower taxes, and a strong national defense.  He understands and is an advocate for the precepts of the US Constitution, will work to rein in the out of control federal spending by irresponsible members of Congress, and will support initiatives to ensure fair trade and private sector growth. He is an independent thinking Republican and will champion the revival of faith, working families, senior citizens, surviving families, and Veterans.  Lt Col Gallegos has over 26 years of service in the US Army and resides in Nampa, Idaho; he is running for a vacant Congressional seat in the 1st Congressional District of Idaho that was occupied by four term Congressman Raul Labrador (R-ID-1) who is a candidate in the Idaho Gubernatorial race.  

Alexander Gallegos was born on July 28, 1970 in Nampa, Idaho.  Alex was raised in Nampa, but lived in Long Beach, CA briefly from 1982 to 1984 while in middle school.  Alex then returned to Nampa, and attended Nampa High School; he was a member of the Nampa High School Varsity Wrestling team that won the Idaho State Championship in 1988.  He graduated from Nampa High in June 1988.  Alex was awarded an ROTC Scholarship to attend the University of Tampa in Tampa, FL; he graduated with Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology in May 31, 1997, and received a commission through the ROTC Program as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve and an immediate appointment to active duty.  In June 2000, 1st Lt Gallegos graduated from Webster University in St Louis, MO with a Masters of Arts Degree in Human Resources (Development).  Maj Gallegos graduated from the Naval War College, College of Naval Command and Staff, in Newport, RI in June 2009 and received a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. 

On March 14, 1989, Alexander Gallegos enlisted in the US Army at the Boise Military Entrance Processing Station in Boise, Idaho.  In May 1989, Pvt Alexander Gallegos began basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, and completed training in June 1989.  He went on to advanced individual training, was promoted early to PV2 in July 1989.  He completed Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA in August 1989, and in September 1989 he reported to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC as an Administrative Specialist.  In April 1990, he was assigned to the Office of the Inspector General, 1st Corps Support Command (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC, and was promoted to Private First Class in October 1990. 

In December 1990, Pfc Gallegos deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm to Dharan, Saudi Arabia with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Corps Support Command (Airborne), and moved to Operating Base Black Jack as a member of the main command post and assault command post.  In April 1991, Pfc Gallegos returned to Fort Bragg, NC, and was promoted to Specialist in October 1991.  In  August 1992, he deployed in support of humanitarian assistance relief efforts for Hurricane Andrew to Homestead Air Force Base, FL. 

In October 1993, SPC Gallegos deployed in support of Operation Restore Hope with Joint Task Force-Somalia to Mogadishu, Somalia, and he returned to CONUS in March 1994, and on August 19,1994 he was Honorably Discharged from the US Army to accept an ROTC Scholarship to gain a commission in the US Army.  SPC Gallegos awards included the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, United Nations Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation Award, the Parachutist Badge, and numerous Campaign and Service Medals.

In September 1994, Alexander Gallegos matriculated at the University of Tampa, Tampa, FL on an ROTC Scholarship.  Following graduation from the University of Florida, in Tampa, on May 31, 1997, Alexander Gallegos was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve.  He was immediately ordered to active duty in June 1997, 2nd Lt Gallegos received orders to report to the Adjutant General Officer Basic Course in Fort Jackson; he completed training in August 1997.  In October 1997, he reported as Chief, Officer Management Branch and later, Chief, Enlisted Management Branch, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Corps Support Command (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC, and in November 1998 he was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant.  In October 1999, 1st Lt Gallegos reported to the Military Entrance Processing Station in Boise, ID as the Test Control and Assistant Operations Officer; in December 2000 1st Lt Gallegos was promoted to Captain.  

On November 2002, Capt Gallegos reported as Battalion Personnel and the Adjutant (S-1) for the 1st Psychological Operations Battalion (Airborne) 4th Psychological Operations Group, Fort Bragg, NC.  In November 2003, Capt Gallegos took command of Company A, Support Battalion, 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne), at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, NC.  In June 2005, Capt Gallegos was reassigned as Chief of the Sensitive Activities Division, Deputy Chief of Staff (G-1), Headquarters and Headquarters Company, US Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, NC.  In June 2006, CPT Gallegos was transferred as the Group S-1 and Adjutant for the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), United States Army Special Forces Command, Fort Bragg, NC.  In June 2006, Capt Gallegos was selected for early promotion and frocked to Major.

For the period, from August 2006 to March 2007, Major Gallegos deployed in Support of Operations Enduring Freedom to Bagram, Afghanistan as the Director of Manpower and Personnel (J-1) for the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force, Afghanistan.  He collaborated with US Special Operations Command Central, major Subordinate Commands, and US Army Specials Operations Command on operational readiness.  He successfully attained support of critical Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force and Afghanistan manning levels.  

Maj Gallegos returned to Bagram for the period from October 2007 to May 2008, as the Director of Manpower and Personnel, he was responsible for all Special Operations Forces Joint personnel assignments and (removed a few words) the submission of Special Operations Forces casualty reports and combat and valor awards including the Congressional Medal of Honor for Staff Sergeant Robert J. Miller, Special Forces Operations Detachment Alpha 3312, Special Operations Task Force 33, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan.

From July 2009 to August 2011, Maj Gallegos was assigned as Chief, Officer Promotions, ESPD, the Adjutant General Directorate, US Army Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, KY.  In August 2011, he was assigned as the Personnel Policy Integrator, Directorate of Military Personnel Management, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff (G-1), Department of the Army, Pentagon, Washington, DC.  On July 2012, Major Gallegos was assigned as the Executive Officer to the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs), Department of the Army, Army Secretariat, Pentagon, Washington, DC. 

In October 2012, Major Gallegos was frocked to Lieutenant Colonel, and was subsequently appointed as the Executive Officer to the Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs).  In April 2014, Lt Col Gallegos received order to assume command of the 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, at Fort Campbell, KY.  During that assignment he deployed the Battalion in support of Operation United Assistance, in Liberia and Senegal.  In June 2016, Lt Col Gallegos received order to report as Deputy Chief, Officer Division, Directorate of Military Personnel Management, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff (G-1), Department of the Army, Pentagon, Washington, DC. 

On November 30, 2017, following over 26 years of service, Lt Col Gallegos was Honorably Discharged from the US Army.  He is the recipient of the Legion of Merit (Oak Leaf Cluster for 2nd award), Bronze Star Medal (Oak Leaf Cluster for 2nd award), Meritorious Service Medal (Silver Oak Leaf for 6 awards), Joint Services Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (Oak Leaves Cluster for 4 awards), Army Achievement Medal (Oak Leave Clusters for 3 awards), Joint Meritorious Unit Award (Oak Leaf Clusters for 2nd award), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation (Oak Leaf Cluster for 2nd award), Army Superior Unit Award, NATO Medal, Master Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and numerous Service and Campaign Medals. 

LTC Gallegos is a member of the National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3465 in Nampa, and the Military Officer’s Association.  He has been endorsed by the Combat Veterans For Congress PAC.  Lt Col Gallegos' wife, Lt Col Rebecca Eggers, is an active duty officer presently serving in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff (G-1), Department of the Army, Pentagon, Washington, DC.  The couple have been married 4 years and 8 months and have three children, John (age 19), William (age 17),  and Kamea (age 3).  John is a sophomore at the Citadel, and William will compete next year for an appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point.  The family are members of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Vienna, VA, and Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Nampa, ID.
